World Courier was founded in 1969 when James R. Berger, the company Chairman, identified a critical need for faster and more controlled international document deliveries than the postal service was able to provide. Intimately acquainted with the workings of the shipping industry, he clearly understood the ramifications of delayed letters of credit and bills of lading on a company’s bottom line. In response, he adopted a “no-holdsbarred” philosophy for his fledgling firm, becoming the first to pioneer the concept of a truly premium courier service. Without exception, each customer inquiry was handled individually on a one-to-one basis. Shipments were picked up around the clock—including week-ends and holidays—at the client’s convenience and booked on the first available flight to their destination using only premium airfreight services. Shipments were never held for consolidation. If same-day delivery was not possible, overnight service was the norm.
